Vision

To implement standardized, evidence-based laboratory medicine in a community health care environment.

Mission

CPL Southeast's Orlando Main Laboratory delivers on-site state-of-art diagnostic testing and professional interpretive services to community physicians, hospitals and the general population and offers faster turn-around time and consultation support via advanced Information Technology.

Clinical diagnostic sciences and technologies have been progressing at a very fast pace in recent years. Physicians need guidance to use these technologies more efficiently and effectively to practice evidence-based medicine. Patients and the general public have also become increasingly interested in proactively managing their own health with clinical laboratory information and services for preventive care, disease surveillance, and treatment efficacy and safety monitoring.

Financially, laboratory tests contribute significantly to the continuous escalating health care costs. Lack of efficiency in laboratory test utilization has resulted in large waste in health care resources. Eliminating unnecessary laboratory testing while improving outcome and quality of medical care has become a major challenge for controlling laboratory expenditure in evidence-based medical practices.

CPL Southeast's Orlando Main Laboratory aims to deliver clinical laboratory services with a web-enabled expert system that provides physicians with guidance for test utilization at the point of decision making. The same system also provides patients and the general public direct access to laboratory testing information and services to help them proactively manage their health. For healthcare institutions and third party payers, this system creates a new paradigm that allows the implementation of a cost-effective, evidence-based laboratory medicine practice.
