Surgical Pathology

Turn around time for surgical pathology specimens is a critical factor for your patient. Specimens received are subjected to gross examination and processing overnight. Slides are cut and stained on the following morning and most specimens are read, dictated and reported by that afternoon. Our computer controlled reporting system allows us to print reports directly to your office within minutes of being released.

Cytology

While most Pap smears are routine and don't have the same urgency as a surgical pathology specimen, we still work very hard to keep turn around to a minimum. As specimens are received throughout the day they are processed, stained and covered in preparation for examination. Our CAP registered Cytotechnologists thoroughly examines each case and any abnormality, is reviewed by a pathologist before it is reported.

Our Quality Control procedures require that a minimum of 10% of all normal pap smears be reviewed by a supervisory level pathologist. Even with this attention to detail and review the average turn around time for pap smears is 24-48 hours. Recently you have begun to hear about Thin Prep Pap smears. This procedure which greatly improves the quality of the specimen, is available now. Many physicians feel that the dramatic improvement in specimen quality more than off sets its slightly higher price.
